Evaluating Place Value Numbers in Year 3

The students in Mrs Scott's class learned to create 3-5 digit number representations and evaluate if they were 'Greater Than'/'Less Then' using Number Pieces app and Mindomo app on the iPad. After creating at least 2 colour coded numbers with digital manipulatives, inking and text with Number Pieces app the students learned to take screen shots of their numbers. The class then cropped their screen shot images and imported them to Mindomo app to create a visual representation of how one number was 'Greater Than' or 'Less Than' the other. Well done Year 3's!

Drawing and Telling Night and Day in Year 1

Star stencils.

Inking a shooting star.

A satellite!

Sticker titles.
The Year 1 students learned to show what they know about the night sky and the day sky by drawing with various inputs in the Draw and Tell app. By learning how to use stencils, stickers, inking, paper backgrounds and audio recordings to make a paper of the sky at night/day the students were able to demonstrate their prior knowledge of night and day prior to learning it in Science. The students will be able to merge their two papers together to make them into a short video once they have finished. They will be able to make another one at the end of their Science learning and compare and describe their new learning. Well done year 1's.

Coding Unplugged in Year 2

The students in Mrs Gordon's class learned to develop their computational thinking by writing code to help a friend robot to write numbers correctly. After reviewing the 'language' (commands) that the robot speaks, the class drew 'digital numbers' (all with straight 15 cm lines) that the robot likes. The students were then challenged to write code to help the robot write the numbers 1, 7 and 8 in the correct way photo graph it and review or 'debug' with their shoulder partner. The students were impressive in their ruling and measurement of lines, ordering of commands and identifying directions. They also had a great time coding without any robotic devices at all!

In the 'Know' about the Sun and the Moon in Year 3

The students in Mrs Scott's class learned to use online resources, the Camera app and Pic Collage app to demonstrate what they know about the Earth, sun and moon to begin their Earth Science unit of study. The students learned to search for copyright free images using a Google Advanced Search with appropriate usage rights and took photos from books of things they know using the Camera app. Further, the students imported their images into a Pic Collage poster where they were able to develop appropriately sized headings and sub-headings that also had a colour scheme informed by viewing the opposite sides of a colour wheel. The posters will be displayed and used to compare with at the end of the unit of learning.

Making Posters about How to Use iPads in Year 1

The Year 1's learned to use the Camera app, the Photo Gallery and Pic Collage app to create posters that show how to use iPads effectively and safely. After discussing ways to use iPads safely for learning students worked with their partners to make photos that communicate their rules e.g. keep drink bottles away from iPads. They then learned to take photos that are not blurry with the 'wings in, count 123, ready' strategy. After this they learned to use the colour wheel to pick opposite colours that can help others to see their headings and body text on their poster. Well done Year 1's!

Water Posters in Year 2

Heading informed by colour wheel opposites.

Copyright free images.
The students in Mrs Gordon's class learned to make a digital poster about their Science topic using the Pic Collage app on the iPad. First, they research water related images for Science using online resources such as Google Advanced Search and www.pixabay.com which provided filtered, safe and copyright free choices for the students to use. The students also learned that a way they could double check their images is to look for light writing on the image (water mark) or a website. The class also learned to use the colour wheel to create a colour scheme for their posters that was easy for their audience to read and related to the topic - water. The students came up with some fantastic key words such as wave, lake and waterfall while researching. Well done Year 2's!
