Disaster!

Explaining how a Volcano works.

The Year 6 students in Mrs Wallace's class continued to develop their learning of natural disasters in Science by using the Explain Everything app. All students created an explanation using text, image import via Google Advanced search and auto rotate features in the app, to name a few.
The students will export their final products to their Science Book created using the Book Creator app.

Positives and Negatives

A group formulating their positive and negative effects of mandatory detention to share out on the Padlet wall.
The students in Mr Hort's Year 6 class worked efficiently in small groups to collectively develop a class list of positive and negative effects of mandatory detention. All groups discussed their roles e.g. iPad touch typer and researcher etc.
This followed from a formative assessment that required all students to contribute an explanation of the difference between a refugee and migrant, individually on the Padlet board.
The versatility of Padlet as a collaborative tool, formative assessment tool and reflection tool was obvious.

Designing Robotics Materials in Mrs Hooker's Year 5 Class

BeeBot grid mat purpose and procedures.
BeeBot grid mat with a legend outlining the purpose and procedure.
The students continued the planning phase of their BeeBot robot mats by developing a plan, procedure and demonstration of their mat in the Explain Everything app. This allowed them to be able to explain the main purpose of their mat and conceptualise how it will work from start to finish for a user of their mat.

Learning Angles through Explaining Them in Year 3

The first angle explained was an Acute angle.
In Mrs Wood's Year 3 class the students continued to develop their understanding of types of angles in Maths by explaining them in the Explain Everything app.
In pairs, the students were able to draw angles that fit their definitions and confirm they are correct by applying their angles to photos of real life examples within the classroom.

Collaborating, Sharing and Communicating in Year 5

Collaboratively developing questions on a Padlet wall and researching answers using Google Advanced Search
In Mrs Adam's Year 5 class, the students discovered the ability to collaboratively ask questions about a new topic "What is NAIDOC Week?". They developed the 'Know' and 'Want to Know' of a KWL chart on the Padlet wall with their iPads. Then in a group they discussed which questions they wanted to know the answer to and began researching using Google advanced search.

Lights, Camera...Action in Year 5

The students in Mrs Hooker's class completed their story development for their Year 3 reading buddies by creating their Puppet Pals HD narratives. All students were able to use their plans created in a Book Creator book, with many revising their stories and/or plans. Many collaborated with friends to complete them. Finally, many shared out their Books and Puppet Pals narratives to seek constructive feedback.

Close Up and Personal with Earth Science in Mrs Wallace's Science Class

The Year 6 students in Mrs Wallace's class recorded video explanations of their clay model demonstrations of tectonic plate Science. They learned the best way to take a video with an iPad, taking account of angles, light and noise.
After completing the video of their models demonstrating their understanding of convergence, divergence and transformation the students imported the videos into their Book Creator Science books. Finally, they shared out with their peers and practiced providing feedback as a critical friend.

Story Development in Mrs Hooker's Class

Following from their work on developing characters and creating them for a Puppet Pals HD narrative, the Year 5's in Mrs Hooker's class used Book Creator app for their full story development. The story development will inform their Puppet Pals HD stories.

Explaining the Solar System in Mrs Adam's Class

The year 5's in Mrs Adam's class used the text, shapes, inking and record functions in Explain Everything app to record an explanation relating the Sun, Earth and Moon. They used Google Advanced Search to research the distances between them and discussed the varied results they found from their search. It seems rounding was responsible for these differences.
